Fayette County, Ohio (WCMH) — A 31-year-old man who was arrested for allegedly driving impaired early Saturday morning was killed after he was struck by a semi after he escaped from troopers on Interstate 71 in Fayette County.
The crash occurred at about 3:42 a.m. Saturday after troopers with the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol stopped Jonathon S. Richards, 31, of Hamilton, on Interstate 71 near milepost 63 for speed and marked lane violations.
Richards was suspected of operating a vehicle impaired and was placed under arrest for OVI and for an outstanding warrant from Butler County Sheriff’s Office.
During the arrest, Richards pulled away from troopers and ran into southbound traffic where he was struck by a 2020 Freightliner semi driven by Jamie M. Hornsby, 43, of Scottsburg Indiana.
The fatal crash closed I-71 SB at Route 435 for hours.
The roadway reopened before 8:30 a.m.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
